Q: What do I need to do if my child is absent from school on the day of an assessment task?
A: If the task is a hand in task, then the student needs to submit the task digitally, either via Canvas or email to the class teacher. The student also needs to advise the teacher, via email, of their submission. If the task is an in class task, then the teacher needs to be contacted via email to inform them of the student’s absence. The reason for absence must be acceptable and documented. For Year 11 and 12 students, this needs to be a Medical Certificate.
Q: What if my child has Covid 19?
A: Keep your child home if they are unwell. If the assessment is complete, submit it to Canvas and advise the class teacher of submission via email. If an extension is required, complete the Extension/Illness/Misadventure form and send it to the class teacher to seek KLA Leader approval. A medical certificate is required for Stage 6 students who have Covid and are therefore unable to attend school or complete school work. Evidence of registration of a RAT test will suffice.
Q: What do I do if my child has school sporting commitments?
A: The student needs to submit the task prior to their sporting commitment or seek an extension for an in class task.
Q: What do I do if my child is sick and requires an extension?
A: Contact the student’s teacher as soon as possible to inform them of the illness and request an extension. Extensions need to be approved by the KLA Leader. Stage 6 students will require a medical certificate for the day of the assessment and the day prior in order to increase the chances of a successful extension application.
Q: I have received notification that my child has not completed an assessment task. What happens next?
A: The student needs to complete the task by the date on the notification to show that they have met all outcomes for the assessment. Students in Year 10, 11 and 12 will receive a NESA “N Award” which outlines the steps that they must follow in order to complete the task and lift the award. Please be aware that if two “N Awards” per subject are not addressed, then the student will be at risk of not receiving their HSC or ATAR.
Q: We are having technical issues at home which will impact on my child’s ability to complete the task. What do we do?
A: Please contact the teacher as soon as possible to discuss alternative assessment or submission options for your child. Be aware that citing technical issues as a reason for not completing the assessment task will enact a zero award in the first instance. This may be appeal with relevant and accurate evidence.
