Community Notices

Dear St Johns Community
It was very pleasing to see the efforts that the vast majority of students from Stage 4 and 5 committed to their recent exams. They used their time advantageously during the examination periods and treated the process in an appropriate manner. As students receive their marks back it can help in goal setting for Term 4 and beyond and getting a fuller understanding of areas of success and areas for development.
After our Year 11 Students finished their recent Year 11 End of Course Exams the students engaged in a week of community service. This was so well received by our wider community and the students had a great experience. Students participated in a wide variety of service including working in Age Care, St Vincent de Paul Society and the primary schools in our catchment including St Josephs Gilgandra. There are many benefits to giving service including increased mental health and a feeling of connectedness and happiness. There has been so much positive feedback from the groups that the students worked with and the students themselves.
Congratulations to the incoming Student Leadership Team which was announced on Monday.
The Student Leader Team is:
School Captains: Daniel Butcherine and Charlotte Cooke
School Vice Captains: Alex Maas and Saphira Barton
McAuley House Captains: Lachlan Weir and Olivia Sarantzouklis
Moore House Captains: Archie Morgan and Jessie Letfallah
LaSalle House Captains: Milind Rana and Jessica Bywater
Lennon House Captains: Zavier Newton and Felicity Talbot
The College is grateful to all the students that were a part of the process. It was exciting to see the extent and depth of students who have such an ability to lead and who are prepared to let their light shine.
Finally, after 13 years of schooling, our Year 12 Students completed their formal schooling on Thursday. There were a number of activities planned with and for the students this week culminating in a College Assembly during the day on Thursday followed later that evening with a Mass and Graduation Presentation. This is certainly a very special time for our Year 12 cohort and their families and we keep them in our prayers.
Please find attached a statement from the Bishop of Bathurst on the establishment of CEDB Ltd.
God bless,
Yours faithfully

HSIE Excursion
Last week year 10 students went on a field trip that was an immersive experience that formed part of their Geography assessment. Students walked from Regand Park where they were required to take notes, make observations and complete field sketches of various parts of the Macquarie River flood plain. At Sandy Beach they were required to test the river water, make observations and evaluate the overall health of the Macquarie River. We were blessed with perfect weather and the students enjoyed learning more about their local water supply and how humans interact and manage their environment. A big thank you to Mr Andy Haycock who led the river walk, Miss Caitlin Bowman who assisted the students with testing the water and Mr Ian Marchant.

NSW Rugby 7's State Finals
On Wednesday 18th of September, St Johns sent 3 teams to compete in the NSW Rugby 7s State Finals in the 14s Boys, 14s Girls, and 16s Girls divisions. The competition was fierce but SJC showed a lot of grit and heart and played a lot of competitive Rugby throughout the day.
The 14s Girls came away with 1 win and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, positivity, and courage in their games.
The 14s Boys had a strong campaign, winning all their pool games but one. They finished 3rd in their pool on for and against but adapted well to the standard and showed continuous improvement with each game.
The 16s Girls showed enormous strength and determination on the day with injuries and illness plaguing the side. They won 2 games and should be very proud of their efforts to keep getting up and working through their games.
Reaching this level is a fantastic achievement and all coaches were extremely proud of all players, especially considering most of the players had never played Rugby until this year.
A massive thank you to Mr Stuart Burke and Miss Amelia Knight for their coaching on the day and assistance in the lead-up to the event.Mr Connor Burke | KLA Leader PDHPE

Attendance
We care about attendance because we care about your child.
When students attend school consistently, they have more opportunities to develop and maintain positive friendships.
Regular attendance in secondary school provides the consistency and continuity necessary for students to develop, nurture, and maintain positive friendships. These friendships contribute not only to the social aspects of secondary school but also to the overall wellbeing and personal growth.
Consistent Presence in Social Settings. Regular attendance ensures that students are consistently present in school, providing them with ample opportunities to engage in social settings. Daily interactions with peers in classrooms, hallways, and common areas foster the development of friendships.
Building Trust and Reliability. Consistent attendance contributes to building trust and reliability among peers. Being present regularly shows a commitment to friendships and helps establish a sense of dependability and mutual support.
Consistent Communication not Online. Regularly attending school allows for consistent face-to-face communication with peers. Students who are present daily can maintain ongoing conversations, share updates, and stay connected with the lives of their peers beyond social media.
Development of Social Skills. Engaging with peers on a daily basis face-to-face contributes to the development of essential social skills. These skills include communication, empathy, teamwork, and conflict resolution, which are valuable for building and maintaining positive friendships.
